A fluid-sampling tool for obtaining a fluid sample from a container. When used in combination with a rotatable drill, the tool bores a hole into a container wall, withdraws a fluid sample from the container, and seals the borehole. The tool collects fluid sample without exposing the operator or the environment to the fluid or to wall shavings from the container.

FIELD OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates generally to chemical sampling tools and, more particularly, to tools that allow the withdrawal of a fluid sample from a sealed container without spillage. This invention was made with government support under Contract No. W-7405-ENG-36 awarded by the U.S. Department of Energy to The Regents to the University of California. The U.S. Government has certain rights in the invention.
