The disclosed subject matter provides a copper oxide nanoparticle, a catalyst that includes the copper oxide nanoparticle, and methods of manufacturing and using the same. The catalyst can be used to catalyze a chemical reaction (e.g., oxidizing carbon monoxide (CO) to carbon dioxide (CO.sub.2)).
