Optoelectronic devices include triplet blocking compounds of formula I ##STR00001## wherein R.sup.1 is, independently at each occurrence, C.sub.1-20 hydrocarbyl and at least one of R.sup.1 is R.sup.3; R.sup.2 is independently at each occurrence C.sub.1-20 hydrocarbyl, C.sub.1-20 hydrocarbyloxy, C.sub.1-20 thioether, C.sub.1-20 hydrocarbylcarbonyloxy or cyano; R.sup.3 is --R.sup.4XR.sup.5; R.sup.4 is a direct bond, C.sub.1-20 aryl, C.sub.1-20 arylalkyl, C.sub.1-20 alkylaryl, C.sub.1-20 substituted aryl, C.sub.1-20 substituted arylalkyl, or C.sub.1-20 substituted alkylaryl; R.sup.5 is C.sub.1-20 hydrocarbyl or C.sub.1-20 hydrocarbyl containing at least one S, N, O or P atom between carbon atoms; R.sup.6 is C.sub.1-20 alkyl or C.sub.1-20 substituted alkyl; X is --O--, --S--, --COO--, --OOC--, --CSS--, --SSC--, NR.sup.6 or PR.sup.6; a is independently at each occurrence 0, 1 or 2; and n is 0 or 1.
